Enterprise systems

Administration Systems

The term 'Enterprise systems' describes the range of administration systems used by any large organisation that utilises computers.

Tracking and Access Functions

Examples of this range could include Human Resource Systems that track skills and competencies and Student Administration Systems that support the education functions of course management, program registration, class enrollment, attendance and grading.

Other examples are Training Administration Systems supporting course administration, enrollment, and course completion functions and Library Management Systems tracking library patrons, managing collections of physical and electronic learning objects, and tracking access to these materials.

IMS Enterprise Information Model

It is desirable to enable the interoperability between such systems residing within the same enterprise or organisation. Standards and protocols that ensure integrity and security of data are essential for this. The IMS Enterprise Information Model is one such model.
