National Interoperability and Digital Architecture

Formed in October 2008, the National Interoperability and Digital Architecture Advisory Group (NIDAAG), and its Reference Group, provide AICTEC with expert cross-jurisdictional and cross-sectoral advice on a technical framework to support online learning and the implementation of the Digital Education Revolution.

NIDAAG Terms of Reference

The Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA) supports the Digital Education Revolution (DER) as a key strategic initiative in achieving world class standards for Australia's education and training and has agreed to work cooperatively.

The Australian Information and Communications Technology in Education Committee (AICTEC) provides strategic policy advice on the implementation of the DER.  The National Interoperability and Digital Architecture Advisory Group (NIDAAG) provides expert cross-jurisdictional and cross-sectoral advice on a technical framework to support online learning and the implementation of the DER.  The Advisory Group provides strategic advice on:

  • a national, unified digital architecture built on a modular and flexible technology base;
  • collaborative work and digital learning environments, including potentially developing middleware services, toolkits, building test beds and possible demonstration projects;
  • identity and access management; and
  • Standards to support content development, discovery and sharing.

The Advisory Group also develops and oversees the implementation of a NIDAAG Work Plan, including recommending funding of projects encompassing research activities, development of policies and standards, implementation projects, post implementation reviews and knowledge sharing.

The Advisory Group reports to AICTEC and comprises:

  • 1 representative from the government schools sector (Chair);
  • 1 representative from the Australian Government;
  • 1 representative from the Catholic schools sector;
  • 1 representative from the independent schools sector;
  • 1 representative from higher education; and
  • 1 representative from vocational education and training.

In the event that more than the required nominations are received, the selection of members will be made by the AICTEC Chair, in consultation with the NIDAAG Chair.

Secretariat support for the NIDAAG will be provided by the AICTEC Secretariat supported by the Broadband and Digital Education Branch (DEEWR).
