ANTA was a Commonwealth Statutory Authority responsible for the development of a national vocational education and training system in cooperation with States and Territory Governments, the Commonwealth Government and industry. On Friday 22nd October, the Prime Minister announced that, from 1 July 2005, the responsibilities and functions of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) would be transferred to the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) was created on 3 December 2007, bringing together elements of the former Departments of Education, Science and Training, Employment and Workplace Relations and the Youth and Early Childhood functions from the Department of Family, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. The department implements government policies and programs to provide education and training opportunities for all Australians, to increase employment participation and to ensure fair and productive workplaces.

The Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG) is an advisory group of the National Senior Officials Committee (NSOC). It was established in 1996 as the key policy advisory group on national directions and priorities for information and communication technologies (ICT) in vocational education and training system (VET) and Adult and Community Education (ACE). FLAG leads the collaborative development and sustained provision of essential national ICT infrastructure; evaluates and provides advice on emerging technological opportunities; and facilitates access to e-learning products and practices that enable an innovative, flexible and responsive national training system.

Government Skills Australia is the industry training and skills standards and advisory organisation for the government and public safety sectors. It represents the training interests and industry standards of: correctional services, water industry, local government, public safety and the public sector.

The Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA) was established on 1 July 2009 following agreement of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to a realignment of the roles and responsibilities of the previously existing Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA). The areas of responsibility covered by the Council are: primary and secondary education, youth affairs and youth policy relating to schooling, cross-sectoral matters including transitions and careers, early childhood development including early childhood education and care, and international education (school education).

Australia's principal research and evaluation organisation for the vocational education and training sector. It is an independent organisation responsible to a board of directors representing employers, unions, education and training organisations, government, and others with an interest in education and training. NCVER manages the national research and evaluation program on behalf of the federal government. This involves developing research priorities with key stakeholders and managing a competitive grants program for funding relevant research into vocational education and training (VET).

The National Youth Careers and Transitions Advisory Group (NYCTAG) aims to assist in progressing the national careers and transitions agenda for young Australians. The Advisory Group will develop advice on strategic issues including matters affecting young people?s successful transitions in relation to learning and education, and issues regarding enterprise, vocational and career education.
