The AIATSIS thesauri contain headings for language group and people, subjects relating to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, and place names. These headings are used to describe all items held in Mura, the AIATSIS Collections Catalogue. The thesauri connects to the Mura catalogue allowing searches to be made from the selected heading. The site contains a Language thesaurus and Place Thesaurus.

The Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) has been developed for use in both countries for the production and analysis of industry statistics. This 2006 edition of the ANZSIC replaces the 1993 edition, which was the first version produced. Prior to then, Australia and New Zealand had separate industry classifications. The 'Related Information' tab has more information on the available support tools which could assist users in the transition from ANZSIC 1993 to ANZSIC 2006.

The APT uses contemporary Australian terminology to describe objects, people, places and structures, activities and concepts depicted in an image. It ensures the common description of pictorial collections across Australian libraries, museums and archives.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has developed the Australian Standard Classification of Education (ASCED) for use in the collection, storage and dissemination of statistical and administrative data relating to educational activity undertaken in Australia.
